Customer data also hacked at Rostocker Straßenbahn AG
Customer data has also been siphoned off during the cyber attack on Rostocker Straßenbahn AG (RSAG). This was the result of a forensic investigation, as the local transport company in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's largest city announced on Wednesday evening. The names and addresses of subscribers that RSAG serves on behalf of Verkehrsverbund Warnow (VVW) may have been affected.
The company regrets the inconvenience, is working on clarification and will contact potentially affected customers as soon as possible. A hacker attack on RSAG became known almost two weeks ago.
The work of the local transport company is still restricted. According to the company, there are still massive disruptions in communication and sales. Tickets can only be purchased at ticket machines with cash.
Hacker attacks on the district of Vorpommern-Rügen and the planning company Inros Lackner in Rostock were also recently reported. The administration of Vorpommern-Rügen has taken IT systems offline, initially up to and including next Monday. According to their own information, their work is considerably restricted.
Despite the ongoing disruptions, municipalities in the region are urged to strengthen their cybersecurity measures to prevent similar incidents. The vulnerability of the Internet in facilitating digital crimes necessitates increased efforts to secure critical infrastructure.
