In Ilmenau, a university city in Germany, incumbent Daniel Schultheiß emerged victorious as mayor, securing 56.4% of the votes, as per figures released by the election commission on Sunday. Jens Dietrich, representing the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, trailed behind with 24.9% of the votes. Schultheiß took over the reins of the southern Thuringian city in 2018, where the Technical University (TU) Ilmenau is located. The voter turnout was high, standing at 66.5%.
