Culture prize goes to "dicht & ergreifend" and Rita Falk
From spatial installations to hip-hop and classical music to literature: the 2023 winners of the Bavarian Culture Prize cover a broad spectrum. This year, the band "dicht & ergreifend" and the writer Rita Falk will be honored. The chief conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Jakub Hrusa, the German-Syrian artist Adidal Abou-Chamat and the artists and art patrons Michaela and Bruno Wank also impressed the jury, as the energy company Bayernwerk announced in Regensburg on Friday.
The jury praised "Dicht & ergreifend" for launching a new genre of music "in the guise of brute beats paired with political satirical lyrics in Lower Bavarian dialect". Rita Falk enriches the literary and film world far beyond Bavaria with her crime novels about the village policeman Franz Eberhofer. Jakub Hrusa has already been named Conductor of the Year at the German Opus Klassik Awards.
In her works, Adidal Abou-Chamat deals artistically with cultural identity, post-colonialism, migration, racism and gender issues as well as the psychological effects of war and violence, it was further stated. The sculptor Bruno Wank has enjoyed great success as an artist and has also created a stage for national and international art with his wife Michaela.
The culture prize has existed since 1959 and has been awarded by Bayernwerk in close cooperation with the Bavarian Ministry of Art since 2005. This year's award ceremony will take place on November 16 and will be streamed live online and on regional television. The Bavarian Culture Prize is endowed with 5000 euros in the art category.
Rita Falk's crime novels, set beyond Bavaria, have significantly contributed to both literature and film. Moreover, "dicht & ergreifend" has revolutionized music by introducing a unique blend of political satire and Lower Bavarian dialect through their brute beats.
