Art projects - Cultural Foundation supports "Jewish Life" program
The Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony is funding further projects in the coming year through the "Jewish Life in Art and Culture" program. As the foundation announced in Dresden on Wednesday, 17 projects are to be supported with a total of around 150,000 euros. The aim is to bring Jewish life in Saxony to life. In a second round of calls for proposals, 35 project sponsors applied for funding.
The funded projects include an exhibition by the German-Israeli Society in Chemnitz, which will present works by Lee Leder Guttman (1925-2015). She was born in Chemnitz in 1925, had to leave Germany during the Nazi era and later emigrated to the USA, where she was one of the first women to work as a cartoonist and animation designer in the studios of Disney and Warner Brothers.
The radio play and concert "The White Album" by Diana Feuerbach is also supported. Based on the story of the same name, the Leipzig-based author is developing a literary-musical radio play together with pianist and composer Lora Kostina. It tells the story of a young Jewish emigrant who leaves Leningrad in Soviet times and moves to New York City.
"It is a great fortune that Jews are once again a natural part of our society today. This must be protected and preserved," explained Foundation Director Manuel Frey. The aim of the program is to contribute to making the rich cultural life of Jews in Saxony visible, to build bridges from the past to the present and to create new spaces for encounters.
16 projects have already received funding for the second half of 2023. In addition to exhibitions, concerts, readings and theater, this also includes workshops and art projects. The program will be announced again in 2025 and 2026.
