Personal details - CSU member of parliament Müller heads Bavarian Cooperative Association
Stefan Müller, Parliamentary Managing Director of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, will become the new President of the Bavarian Cooperative Association (GVB) in the summer. The GVB Association Council appointed the Erlangen MP on Wednesday as the successor to Gregor Scheller, who is retiring in July.
As a trained banker and banking specialist, the 48-year-old has the necessary skills, said Gerhard Walther, Chairman of the Association Council. Müller had worked for several years in a Bavarian Raiffeisen bank, was firmly rooted in Bavaria, knew the cooperative system and had close ties to the SME sector. As Parliamentary Managing Director of the CSU regional group and former Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, "Stefan Müller has the necessary experience to lead our association".
Müller will initially become Chief Representative on June 1 and take over as Chairman of the Board and President of the Association on August 1. This will enable an optimal handover, said outgoing GVB President Scheller. Walther said that Müller and Alexander Leißl, who was appointed to the Board two months ago, should continue the course of clear member orientation and sustainable growth.
The cooperative association represents the interests of 197 Bavarian cooperative banks and 972 companies from the agriculture, energy, trade, crafts and services sectors. With 50,000 employees and 2.9 million shareholders, they form one of the largest medium-sized business organizations in Bavaria.
