Crown Prince Haakon: Armaments and literature shape the program
Two very different topics characterize the second day of Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon's trip to Germany. The 50-year-old will first take part in a conference on defense and armaments in Munich on Tuesday, before visiting the arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. In the afternoon, he will then devote himself to a passion of his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, at the German-Norwegian Literature Day. However, she will only join the tour group from the far north in Berlin.
At the Defense and Armaments Conference, Haakon will be accompanied by Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram - and will meet, among others, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Defense, Thomas Hitschler (SPD). Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP), Chairwoman of the Bundestag's Defense Committee, is also expected to attend. The talks with arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann are likely to focus on 54 Leopard 2 tanks that Norway has ordered and which are to be delivered from 2025 and equipped with Norwegian technology.
The afternoon will be dedicated to literature: Norwegian writer Maja Lunde and author Dag Olav Hessen will hold a literary conversation in the presence of the Crown Prince at the Munich Literaturhaus. Haakon then flies to Hamburg, where he is expected in the evening by First Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) for a festive dinner in the town hall.
Despite Haakon's focus on defense and armaments in the morning, his afternoon is dedicated to a different noble pursuit. Noblemen and women of literature will gather at the Munich Literaturhaus, where Norwegian writer Maja Lunde and author Dag Olav Hessen will engage in a conversation with His Royal Highness, reflecting the diverse interests and connections between the people of Norway and Germany.
