Monuments - Cross on the chapel at Reinhardsbrunn Castle restored
The renovation works at the Reinhardsbrunn Castle Ensemble in Friedrichrode are progressing. The works on the roof of the castle chapel have now been completed, according to the State Chancellery. In the presence of Minister-President Bodo Ramelow (Left), a restored, gilded cross was once again placed on a gable above the entrance. Thuringia saved the castle through expropriation from falling into disrepair and is now investing around two million euros in the preservation of the historical building.
Castle chapel for 7.6 million Euros renovated
The large zinc cross was so damaged that it had to be removed for restoration. The facade restoration of the castle chapel will soon be completed. The chapel should be usable as an events space from 2025. The costs for its restoration alone amounted to approximately 7.6 million Euros.
Nearly all necessary maintenance work in the castle park has been completed, according to the State Chancellery. The historic vistas of the English Landscape Park are once again accessible. A restored stone table from the monastery era on the site has been returned to its original place.
Historic ensemble with nine buildings
The 2.50 meter in diameter, ton-heavy tabletop from Travertine was broken due to vandalism. It was carefully put back together and supplemented.
According to the information provided, the restoration of the park around the Moor Pond and the monumental reconstruction of the park wall should be completed in 2026. The costs for this amounted to around 5.4 million Euros.
Thuringia will continue to invest in the expropriated cultural heritage ensemble. Possible usage concepts include the establishment of a hotel, gastronomy, an educational, exhibition or conference center, or a combination of various options. The castle complex comprises a total of nine buildings and a 15 hectare inner park.
Bodo Ramelow, the Minister-President of Thuringia, attended the placement of the restored, gilded cross on the castle chapel, a symbolic moment in the Monument's remediation work. The current restoration project in Thuringia's Reinhardsbrunn Castle Ensemble, including the chapel and the park, is estimated to cost around 13 million Euros in total.
