In the near future, a major development will take place on the Salzbachtal bridge of the A66 motorway in Wiesbaden. Scheduled for the summer of 2025, the bridge will be completely functional, with traffic flowing smoothly. This significant step starts today at 10 am, as the final phase - moving the hefty steel box girder of the northern section - is carried out. This stage is currently being held on the last bridge pillar. By Tuesday morning, it will be pushed across to the western abutment, according to the Federal Autobahn GmbH.

During the fifth and final move, a distance of around 70 meters will be bridged. The southern half of the new crossing for the A66 motorway was unveiled in December 2023, and since then, traffic has been using the two temporary lanes for two-way movement. The aged, 300-meter-long Salzbachtal bridge met its end in November 2021, as it had become unsafe with concrete blocks falling from it prior to its demolition.
