Emergencies - Crisis services in Bavaria now offer advice in 120 languages
From now on, Bavaria's crisis services will be able to advise people in mental health crises in around 120 languages. Thanks to a translation service and a system with interpreters, the control centers can also assist people who do not speak German, as the Bavarian District Association announced on Wednesday.
The control centers in Upper Bavaria and Swabia have been testing the system since summer 2022. From now on, it will be available to all seven control centers. "This is an important step towards breaking down barriers," said Franz Löffler, President of the Bavarian District Association. The service is being continuously expanded, he added.
The Bavarian Ministry of Health will bear the costs of the additional service. The new system fulfills a requirement of the Bavarian Mental Health Assistance Act, which demands barrier-free accessibility to first aid in mental distress.

In case of an emergency, individuals in Bavaria, including those in Munich, can now seek help in their native language, as the new crisis service can provide assistance in over 120 languages. This development is crucial for managing emergencies at the control centers, ensuring a more inclusive approach to mental health crises.
