The year 2021 saw a staggering count of 6,221 offenses involving knives and other sharp tools reported in North Rhine-Westphalia. The main suspects hailed from German origins (2,992), followed by Syrians (469), Turks (298), Iraqis (159), and Romanians (152).
The law enforcement in Recklinghausen has recently implemented a personal weapon ban for individuals with a history of knife-related crimes. This ban was first imposed on a 37-year-old resident of Bottrop, who is currently under accusation for an armed robbery.
