Economic situation - Craftsmen protest against construction crisis with wall-building campaign

The construction guild in the district of Cloppenburg has highlighted the poor situation in the construction industry with a wall-building campaign. On Friday, tradespeople in the district erected symbolic walls in front of several town halls. "We are currently creating the future for our society," said a statement from the building guild. The housing shortage is creating social explosives. Jobs in the construction industry are also at risk. But despite many announcements by federal politicians, nothing has happened yet.

The Landesvereinigung Bauwirtschaft pointed out that there are concrete proposals as to how the construction industry, which has been battered by inflation, higher interest rates on loans, increases in the price of materials and slashed federal subsidies, could be given a boost. However, despite official agreements at construction summits, these have not been implemented. The Lower Saxony Construction Industry Association spoke of a lack of interest in the crisis in the construction industry on the part of politicians and administrators.

Above all, the construction industry is calling for a constant funding backdrop. Among other things, low-interest loans from the KfW for new buildings, a suspension of property tax or less bureaucratic funding rules are needed.
