Court: Relocation of helicopter squadron not legal

The relocation of the police helicopter squadron to Oberschleissheim has been the subject of dispute for years - now a court decision has been made.

The helicopter squadron cannot be relocated as planned.

The Bavarian Police helicopter squad is not allowed to be relocated from Munich to Oberschleißheim as planned. The corresponding planning approval decision is partially invalid, according to a decision by the Administrative Court of Munich, and therefore cannot be implemented. The court largely sided with the BUND Naturschutz in Bayern, which had filed a lawsuit against the relocation. The plans violate, according to the court, provisions for the protection of the landscape in that area.

However, the lawsuits (M 31 K 18.4150 and others) filed by the municipality of Oberschleißheim, ten of its citizens, the city, and the Munich district against the relocation were unsuccessful. The judgments are not yet legally binding.

  1. Despite the planned relocation of the Bavarian Police helicopter squad from Munich to Oberschleißheim, certain environmental processes in that area require protection.
  2. The municipalities of Munich and Oberschleißheim, along with several individuals and the Munich district, have disagreed with the proposed air traffic changes connected to the relocation.
  3. The court's decision to halt the relocation emphasized the importance of nature conservation efforts in and around the Oberschleißheim region.
  4. The process of relocating the police helicopter squad to Oberschleißheim has been met with opposition from multiple parties due to concerns regarding the local environment and air traffic regulations.
