Handball - Court rejects application by top scorer Zehnder

The sporting future of Manuel Zehnder remains open. The top scorer of the Handball Bundesliga's previous season with HC Erlangen could not come to an agreement with his club regarding the termination. The Labor Court Nuremberg rejected the application on Thursday, reported the portal "Handball-World".

Accordingly, an eight-day period had elapsed. Swiss national player Zehnder, who was loaned from HCE to ThSV Eisenach in the past season, could not reach an agreement with his home club. Therefore, the court made a decision. The presiding judge referred to two points: Firstly, there was a "lack of need for legal protection" from the chamber's perspective, as the court had doubts that the Handball Bundesliga would consider this decision binding in an expedited procedure. The league has thus indicated that it would prefer to issue a judgment in a main proceedings case.

The second argument was "anticipation of the main issue". In a main proceedings case, the first hearing takes place after four weeks, followed by a chamber hearing in the usual case after three to six months. In an expedited procedure, like the one Zehnder had filed for an injunction, everything happens faster. The party of the handball player can appeal this judgment. For this, they have a month.

  1. Despite the court's decision, the future of Manuel Zehnder in the Handball Bundesliga remains uncertain, as the league has indicated its preference for a main proceedings case.
  2. Originally loaned to ThSV Eisenach in Thuringia during the previous Handball Bundesliga season, Zehnder's past experiences with the club may influence his future decisions in the sport.
  3. The Handball Bundesliga, which spans various clubs across Germany and Bavaria, will closely monitor the developments in Zehnder's case, considering the impact on contract disputes in the league.
  4. While HC Erlangen and Zehnder could not reach an agreement, Thuringia-based ThSV Eisenach might be interested in re-exploring potential partnerships, considering Zehnder's previous success in the Handball Bundesliga with their club.
  5. As Handball Bundesliga clubs like HC Erlangen and ThSV Eisenach prepare for their upcoming seasons, the resolution of Zehnder's case will impact the league's overall player transfer market and future negotiations.
