Illegal activity - Couple's arrest warrants lifted in rape case trial

A court in Braunschweig has dismissed arrest warrants for two individuals accused of a particularly violent rape and severe physical harm. The criminal chamber, which made the decision, no longer finds enough evidence to establish a strong suspicion of the crime. The announcement came on Monday. The couple, who are from Goslar, received long prison sentences last year for raping their own daughter or stepdaughter in the same court.

But the defendants appealed against their conviction, and the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) overturned the verdict in March due to issues with the original evidence assessment. In the new proceedings at the criminal chamber, there are now concerns about the credibility of the alleged victims' statements. Although the chamber believes the defendants may still be guilty, they cannot confirm a strong suspicion. Innocence until proven guilty remains in force.
