- Couple again in court for raping daughter

The trial against a couple accused of sexually abusing their adult daughter and stepdaughter is set to resume at the Regional Court of Braunschweig on Monday (9:00 AM). The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) had overturned the verdict against the two defendants, citing insufficient evidence evaluation. Now, another chamber of the Regional Court will reconsider the charges. The mother was sentenced in June 2023 to a total of 13.5 years in prison, among other things, for multiple rapes, while her partner received a sentence of nine years and six months. However, in June of this year, the arrest warrants were lifted. While they are still suspected, there is no longer a strong suspicion of guilt, according to the Braunschweig court.

The defendants have appealed the initial verdict at the Court of First Instance, which led to the overturning of their convictions by the Federal Court of Justice. Subsequently, the case will be reviewed by a different chamber within the same jurisdiction, The Court of First Instance.
