Government - Council of Victims of Sexualized Violence against Children
Thuringia's planned state council for those affected by sexualized violence against children is set to begin its work next spring. Those affected by sexualized violence in childhood and adolescence have until the end of January to apply for a voluntary position on the council, said Thuringia's State Commissioner for Child Protection, State Secretary Winfried Speitkamp, in Erfurt on Tuesday.
With seven to ten members, the State Council of Concerned Persons is intended to represent the interests of those affected and advise and support the state government. "This is not a body that listens to the authorities, we want to listen to the expert advice," said Speitkamp. The committee is to meet for the first time at the beginning of April at the latest and will meet four times a year in future.
Thuringia is the second federal state after Rhineland-Palatinate to convene a state council of affected persons, said Speitkamp. A similar body has already been set up at federal level. According to the data, around one in seven children in Germany is exposed to sexualized violence.
In Thuringia, work has continued on protection concepts in schools, institutions, clubs and associations that work with children and young people. This year, the focus has been on prevention in voluntary clubs and associations, it said.
