The flood-stricken region has seen major improvements since 2013, but officials have declared the need for reinforcing a 13-kilometer stretch with sandbags, according to Sibler.

Regarding the HQ100 project in the Deggendorf-Vilshofen area, the necessary approvals have been made, and passing the decision to the Federal Transport Ministry is expected to happen by the end of the year. After that, construction work should take around seven years. "We're thrilled that we managed to get the situation under control, but it requires patience and resources," said Sibler, emphasizing the need for faster planning.

The flood protection measures put in place in the Passau district have worked wonderfully, as the area didn't necessitate a disaster declaration. This highlights the importance of closing the remaining gaps. Sibler also mentioned that any potential developments on polder lands could prove beneficial.

The weather disturbance in Lower Bavaria, particularly around Deggendorf, showcased its destructive force during the recent storm. Despite the CSU's efforts to enhance flood defenses, officials in the region acknowledged the need for further construction and flood protection. This includes reinforcing a 13-kilometer stretch with sandbags, as identified by Sibler.

The HQ100 project, located in the Deggendorf-Vilshofen area, has received necessary approvals, with the decision expected to pass to the Federal Transport Ministry by year's end. Once construction begins, it's projected to take around seven years to complete. Sibler emphasized the importance of fast-tracking planning processes throughout this period.

The Danube continues to pose a challenge, as evidenced by the flood situations in Passau. Although the flood protection measures implemented in the district were successful and avoided a disaster declaration, Sibler suggested that targeted expansion in floodplains and polder lands could further enhance Bavaria's overall flood protection.
