- Could Saxony transition into a Brombeurland following the election?
Bountiful Alliance in Saxony? There's a possibility of a coalition between CDU, SPD, and Sahra Wagenknecht's Alliance, tentatively named the "Blackberry Union." The moniker stems from the fact that no nation globally features black (representing CDU), red (signifying SPD), and purple (symbolizing Sahra Wagenknecht's Alliance) in its national flag.
The blackberry serves as the inspiration, as the fruit exhibits the prospective coalition partners' colors at various stages of maturity. The term "Blackberry Union" was initially coined by political scholar Karl-Rudolf Korte in an essay detailing his perspective on the eastern state elections.
In the Saxony state election on Sunday, the Saxon Union finished just ahead of AfD (30.6%) with a total of 31.9% votes. Due to CDU Minister-President Michael Kretschmer's firm refusal to collaborate with AfD and the Left, the Union's only viable choice is an alliance with BSW (11.8%) and SPD (7.3%), or with BSW and Greens (5.1%).
So far, Saxony has been governed by a "Kenya Coalition." The black, green, and red hues in its flag are also present in East Africa's flag. However, Kretschmer prefers to call it the "Saxony Coalition."
The SPD is a potential partner in the coalition negotiations for the Saxony state election, along with the CDU and Sahra Wagenknecht's Alliance, as suggested by the "Blackberry Union" moniker. If a coalition is formed, the SPD will be represented in the governing body of Saxony, following the election results.
