Cycling - Cottbus is ready for the European Junior Track Cycling Championships
Cottbus is ready for the U19 and U23 Bahn Cycling European Championships. The title races will be held for the second time since 2007 at the Velodrome in Cottbus's Sports Center.
"We are excited about a record participation of 425 athletes from 30 nations," said Organizing Chief Axel Viertler at a press conference.
The German Cycling Association (BDR) is represented by a team of 44 athletes, including numerous athletes from the region. "I think I have the best chances to win another medal in the Keirin U23. I know this track inside and out, which gives German athletes a clear advantage," said Clara Schneider from Finsterwalde, the U23 Keirin defending champion.
44 Decisions in 6 Days
There are many promising talents, as well as several Olympic participants at the start - among them the German Luca Spiegel (RV Offenbach) or the former Elite World Champion Taky Marie-Divine Kouamé from France. During the six competition days, 44 decisions will be made. Last year in Portugal, Italy dominated the competitions.
