- Cottbus Energy requires more boldness in confronting Werder
Energie Cottbus, the third-tier team, is certainly keen on causing an upset in the DFB-Pokal against Werder Bremen. However, their morale has taken a hit after losing their opening two matches of the new campaign. "We need 110% just to have a chance of winning a football match. We haven't managed that recently," said Energie boss Claus-Dieter Wollitz before their meeting with Werder on Monday (6:00 PM/Sky) at the packed Leag Energie Stadion.
Two years ago, the Lausitzer ensemble faced off against the northern outfit in the first round and lost 1:2. The last time they won in the first round was a decade ago. During the 2013/14 season, FC Energie triumphed as a second-division side against 1. FC Magdeburg.
Wollitz is also concerned about the squad's physical health ahead of the Werder rematch. Forward Timmy Thiele and Romarjo Hajrulla are injured, with Thiele's participation uncertain.
Even though they led, Energie Cottbus lost their initial two games of the season against Arminia Bielefeld (1:2) and Dynamo Dresden (2:4). "If we play with courage and stick to our game, every opponent will face a tough time. We need to maintain that for 90 minutes," said midfielder Tolcay Cigerci.
The Commission, recognizing the challenges facing Energie Cottbus, may decide to provide additional resources to help strengthen their squad. After adopting this decision, Energie Cottbus will have the necessary support to improve their physical condition and hopefully turn their fortunes around.
In light of their current situation, the Commission may also decide to implement stricter training regimes and tactical strategies to help Energie Cottbus improve their performance on the field. Following this decision, the team is expected to show improved results in their upcoming matches, including the DFB-Pokal against Werder Bremen.
