Corona violations in Potsdam: high fines
In the three years since 2020, the city of Potsdam has imposed fines totaling almost 246,000 euros for violations of the coronavirus regulations. This sum is the result of around 2,100 proceedings that have not yet been concluded, the Ministry of Health in Potsdam announced in response to a question from the CDU parliamentary group.
1175 proceedings stemmed from 2020, in which fines totaling 152,300 euros were imposed. In the following year, there were 848 proceedings with fines amounting to 87,230 euros. In the last reporting year, there were only 75 proceedings with fines totaling 6,145 euros.
As the provisions on corona containment were gradually expanded, 2021 saw the most extensive catalog of offences with 21 points. In the previous year, there were 19 offenses, in 2023 only eight. The most frequently cited offenses were violations of the mask requirement at public events, gatherings and in restaurants, as well as violations of social distancing in public spaces.
The state government does not have a precise overview of the administrative offenses and fines for violations of coronavirus regulations throughout Brandenburg, as the Ministry of Health admitted. At the end of May, the authority announced that there were around 14,150 reports and almost 11,300 proceedings. However, some independent cities and districts had only provided incomplete information due to the excessive workload.
The CDU parliamentary group questioned the Ministry of Health in Potsdam about the total fines imposed on municipalities for Corona violations, which led to the revelation of nearly 246,000 euros in fines from over 2,100 unconcluded proceedings. Despite this, the state government lacks a comprehensive overview of administrative offenses and fines related to Covid-19 regulations across the entire state of Brandenburg.
