Corona aid: One quarter of the invoices submitted
The final settlements for state corona aid are only slowly coming in in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Schwerin announced on Tuesday, only just under 6,000 of around 23,700 expected invoices had been received by the deadline of October 31. The defaulting companies had received reminders with a deadline extension until January 31, 2024.
The business associations in MV had criticized the deadlines, which in their opinion were too tight, and possible reclaims. Nationwide, almost one in four companies that received state aid during the coronavirus crisis will have to repay some of it. This is the result of a preliminary assessment by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Berlin, which is available to the German Press Agency. It is based on random samples of the 338,000 applications submitted so far for the final settlement. However, around 40 percent of the companies will also receive additional payments.
According to the State Ministry of Economics, almost 44,000 applications were submitted in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in all phases of the bridging aid, including the November, December and new start aid. 344 million euros in emergency aid had been approved and disbursed. A further 44.5 million euros were granted as part of the new start programs.
Given the current processing status, it is not yet possible to say how many companies in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will be reclaimed. It is therefore also unclear how many companies will receive back payments due to additional losses. According to the State Ministry of Economic Affairs, companies are given a period of 6 months to make repayment claims, but there is always the possibility of agreeing payment in installments or deferral.
The coronavirus bridging aid was paid out unbureaucratically to companies whose existence was threatened by a sharp drop in turnover. However, this disbursement was linked to a final account - the actual decline in turnover and eligible fixed costs were compared with the forecast. Reclaims can be made, for example, if the actual decline in turnover was lower than expected when the application was submitted.
According to figures from the Federal Ministry of Economics, a total of around 13.1 billion euros in emergency aid and 63.3 billion euros for programs such as the November, December and restart aid were paid out.
The economic policy resulting from the Corona crisis in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern includes the review of economic aid payments, with around 23,700 invoices expected for final settlements, only 6,000 of which have been received by the October 31 deadline. The economic situation of the defaulting companies has led to a nationwide assessment, revealing that almost one in four companies that received state aid during the pandemic will need to repay some finances.
