Cooperation to accelerate fiber optic expansion
The competition to provide rental apartments in Germany with a fast fiber optic internet connection is gaining momentum. The Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies (GdW), Vodafone and the fiber optic alliance OXG have announced a cooperation for fiber optic expansion in the German housing industry.
The GdW had already agreed a similar partnership with Deutsche Telekom last May. The companies organized in the GdW account for around one third of rental apartments in Germany.
Vodafone explained that a joint position paper had been adopted in which the cooperation partners had agreed "concrete guidelines for the expansion of fiber optics in members' real estate portfolios". "They make the expansion in residential properties faster and easier than before," said Philippe Rogge, CEO of Vodafone Germany. "We are pursuing a common goal: to bring fiber optics to residential properties more easily and faster than usual on the market - in both small and large properties."
In the division of work between the partners, the fiber optic alliance OXG, which Vodafone launched together with the internationally active fiber optic specialist Altice, is responsible for the free fiber optic expansion to every residential unit (Fiber to the Home). OXG is also responsible for operating and maintaining the infrastructure.
The network is open to all market participants, emphasized those involved. Tenants can decide for themselves which of the providers available via the fiber optic network they would like to use.
This cooperation between GdW, Vodafone, and OXG aims to significantly enhance telecommunications in Germany by increasing the availability of high-speed Internet through fiber optic expansion in the housing sector. The partnership will utilize glass fiber technology, allowing for smoother and faster Internet connections in numerous living spaces.
