Wedding parade - Conviction for road blockade overturned
Six years after a wedding procession blocked the streets in Duesseldorf, the local court overturned the conviction of a 32-year-old man. The proceedings against him, who had been sentenced to a fine of 1600 Euros in the first instance, were discontinued.
The Dutchman successfully defended himself in the appeal proceedings against the guilty verdict. A judge had identified the man as the leader of the procession consisting of 15 cars and therefore as the cause of the road blockade in the previous year and imposed the fine.
However, his colleague at the court saw it differently: After evaluating numerous photos, it could not be proven that the defendant had driven his red Audi at the head of the wedding procession, the judge declared. The photos showed that there were vehicles in front of his car. The criminal proceedings were discontinued with the consent of all parties involved.
The prosecution had valued the brief blockade as particular thoughtlessness and indifference towards other car drivers. Angered and stopped drivers had filmed the blockade. Initially, all 15 participants of the procession were investigated.

- The overturned conviction in the Düsseldorf regional court follows a review of the case, where it was determined that the Dutch man's red Audi could not be definitively proven to be at the front of the wedding parade, removing the basis for the traffic violation conviction and fine.
- In the midst of the wedding parade disruption in Düsseldorf, a car procession that included 15 vehicles, the North Rhine-Westphalia regional court found insufficient evidence to uphold the conviction of the 32-year-old man for his involvement in the traffic crime of causing a road blockade.
- The local court in Düsseldorf, during the appeal proceedings, found that multiple video captures showing vehicles in front of the man's Audi cast doubt on his responsibility as the leader of the wedding parade, which had led to a road blockade in the region of North Rhine-Westphalia.
- In the North Rhine-Westphalia regional court, a dubious traffic situation involving a car procession in Düsseldorf that had blocked roads during a wedding parade six years ago saw the man at the head of the procession successfully defend himself against guilt, ultimately leading to the discontinuation of the criminal proceedings against him.
