According to the government spokesperson, Scholz and Starmer also discussed the topics of the NATO summit in Washington. They reportedly agreed to continue supporting Ukraine as long as it was necessary.

Starmer was appointed as the new British prime minister last week Friday following his historic victory of the Labour Party in the British House of Commons election. A meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House was also planned.

During their conversation, Scholz and Starmer highlighted the importance of Germany's and the UK's cooperation at the upcoming NATO summit in Washington. As the first meeting between the two leaders, this rande was seen as a milestone in British-German relations. The Prime Ministers also agreed to hold a speedy follow-up conversation before the NATO summit to further strengthen their alliance.
