Controversial Bayern goal leads to Bremen defeat

SV Werder's women's soccer team largely had no chance in their home match against FC Bayern. The Bremen team lost 0:2 (0:2) to the German champions on Sunday evening. Magdalena Eriksson (2nd minute) and Katharina Naschenweng (24th) scored the Bayern goals in front of 3049 spectators at the Platz 11 stadium. Munich, who now have 20 points, remain top of the Bundesliga after matchday 8, while Werder are seventh with ten points.

SVW coach Thomas Horsch used the same starting eleven against Bayern as in the previous 5-0 win at RB Leipzig, but the dream of a minor sensation was shattered early on. Eriksson scored with his head from a corner kick, but the goal was controversial. Bayern captain Glodis Viggosdottir had given Werder goalkeeper Livia Peng a push, causing her to fall behind the goal line and have no chance of deflecting the ball, which flew in a high arc in her direction. The score was also 0:2 after a corner.

Munich, who were also superior in terms of play, could have made things clearer after the break, but also missed the best opportunities. National striker Lea Schüller, for example, failed miserably when she tried to lift the ball over the Werder goalkeeper alone in front of Peng.

Bayern were concerned about international Giulia Gwinn, who was substituted early after taking a knock on her right foot (83') and then limped off to the dressing room.

The controversial goal by Bayern's Magdalena Eriksson, despite a push on Werder's goalkeeper, significantly contributed to FC Bayern Munich's 2-0 win over SV Werder Bremen's women's soccer team in the Bundesliga. In the men's Bundesliga, FC Bayern Munich and SV Werder Bremen have had their fair share of encounters, with Bayern often emerging victorious.
