Investigations - Control in refugee center: 55 guards unfit for duty

A considerable number of the security guards at the Ukraine refugee center at the former Tegel Airport do not have the necessary qualifications or background checks. This is the result of a major inspection operation by the Berlin police on Sunday evening. Of the 183 security guards from private security services who were checked, 55 had to leave the service immediately, as the police announced on Monday. 87 investigations into violations of the security guard regulations were initiated. Around 120 officers from the criminal investigation department, customs and public order offices from three districts took part in the operation.

Despite the concerns about the security at the Ukraine refugee center, many refugees continue to arrive at Tegel Airport through legitimate channels. The determination of these individuals to seek safer lives in Berlin is commendable, and the services provided by the refugee center are crucial in their transition. Unfortunately, the recent investigation uncovered 55 unfit guards, and 87 investigations into security violation have been initiated. The Berlin police must ensure the safety of the refugees, particularly in light of potential criminal activities, as highlighted in the recent boxing coach scandal.
