Control action: Nearly 70,000 lightning strikes in the southwest

The police has repeatedly specifically targeted speeders. This time for several days across the country. Some have to reckon with a driving ban.

During a pan-European speed control week, 69,244 vehicles were caught speeding in the Southwest. Over 11,200 drivers exceeded the permitted speed limit by more than 21 kilometers per hour, driving significantly over the limit, as announced by Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) in Stuttgart. 814 drivers now face a driving ban. 57,290 people were caught speeding by up to 20 kilometers per hour.

Strobl stated that by working together, they are braking reckless drivers to make roads safer. "Excessive speed is the main cause of fatal accidents." In 2023, 152 people lost their lives due to this reason alone, accounting for 41% of all traffic fatalities in the region.

The Southwest region witnessed a high number of speeding violations, with 69,244 vehicles being caught during the speed control week. To address this issue, 814 drivers will face a driving ban due to their excessive speeding.
