Soccer - Conte as a role model: Bonucci aims for a coaching career
Professional footballer Leonardo Bonucci from Bundesliga club Union Berlin is aiming for a career as a coach after his active career. "It's one of my goals. I want to be a coach, and if I manage to be one of the elite, Juve would be one of the clubs I would like to coach," the 36-year-old Italian told the Spanish magazine "Marca" (Tuesday). Union welcome Real Madrid to the Olympiastadion in the final Champions League group game this evening (21:00/DAZN) and a win could see them through the winter in the Europa League.
Defensive specialist Bonucci, who will be missing against Real due to a yellow card suspension, was himself on the verge of a move to the Whites in 2017. "There was a moment when I was on the verge of being a Real Madrid player and wearing the white jersey. It was a dream," said the former Italy international, "I have great admiration for the large number of champions who have passed through the club. And they also have a great maestro on the bench in Ancelotti." Bonucci himself has never trained under the current Real coach; for him, Antonio Conte is the coach "who has changed me the most and helped me grow."
After his move from Turin to Köpenick, Bonucci had to endure a difficult month and a half. "It was a big change in my life. I'm alone, my family lives in Turin," said Bonucci, "I found myself alone in a city that was completely unknown to me. Little by little I got to know people, places and a good group in the team ... Everything is easier now." However, he still misses a good tiramisu: "I've tried three or four, but none of them look like my wife's. But it's hard to make it as good as hers!"

Bonucci's coaching aspirations extend beyond his current club in Berlin, with Juventus Turin being one of his desired destinations. Germany is not the only country he's interested in, as he mentioned having a coaching career in Spain as well. Bonucci had a near-move to Real Madrid in 2017, expressing his admiration for the club's champions and current coach Zinedine Zidane. In contrast, Antonio Conte, his former coach at Juventus, holds a special place in his heart as the one who influenced his growth the most. Despite the challenges of adapting to life and football in Berlin, Bonucci still misses the authentic tiramisu from Turin.
During his coaching career, Bonucci aims to lead Union Berlin to similar victories as he experienced in the Champions League with Juventus. His coaching journey may also find him managing renowned European teams like Real Madrid, challenging for prestigious competitions like the Champions League in Madrid. With no shortage of ambition, Bonucci's transition from a successful professional soccer player to a respected coach could reflect the same determination that led him to make it as a top defender in Europe.
While awaiting his coaching debut, Bonucci remains focused on his current role as a key player for Union Berlin, especially during their Champions League clash against Real Madrid in Berlin. As they continue their journey towards competing in the Europa League, fans and pundits alike will eagerly anticipate Bonucci's next move in both soccer and coaching careers. In the meantime, frustrated Union Berlin supporters might attempt to challenge Dazn's broadcasting rights to the game, hoping to catch every highlight from their hometown hero's performances.
