Social affairs - Container set up to protect the homeless

The city of Kiel has set up three containers to provide shelter for homeless people during the cold season. These so-called frostbite protection containers are intended to provide a warm place to sleep in addition to the regular accommodation, as the city announced on Tuesday. Showers and toilets are also available.

"Nobody has to be without accommodation in Kiel," said the city's head of social affairs, Gerwin Stöcken. He appealed to fellow citizens to look out for particularly vulnerable people and - if necessary - to make them aware of the shelter containers on offer.

There is room for a total of 20 people in the frostbite protection containers. According to the city, six to twelve homeless people are currently taking advantage of the offer. No one has to register - anyone standing in front of the door from 5 p.m. is given entry and can then stay until the next morning.
