Consumer prices up in Saxony

Petrol, travel or eating out: consumer prices in Saxony have risen compared to the previous year. However, costs have also fallen in one main group.

Prices - Consumer prices up in Saxony

Consumer prices in Saxony are expected to have risen by approximately 2.8 percent compared to the previous month. Particularly in the hospitality and accommodation services sector (+7.1 percent) and other goods and services (+6.7 percent), costs increased in June, according to the Statistical Office. Prices for food and beverages in restaurants and cafes also rose by 7.4 percent within a year. The Statistical Office also reported a significant increase in the prices of social services (+9.1 percent).

Decreased costs for telecommunications

Costs decreased in only a few areas, including post and telecommunications (-1.0 percent). This was due to the decreased costs for purchasing telephones and other communication devices, which fell by 5.2 percent.

In comparison to the previous month of May 2024, consumer prices are predicted to have risen by approximately 0.1 percent. Therefore, pensioners and holidaymakers can expect higher prices for package tours and accommodations at the beginning of the summer season.

In Saxony, consumers noticed a rise of 2.8% in consumer prices compared to the previous year's month, particularly in sectors like hospitality and accommodation services and others. The prices of restaurant meals and beverages increased by a significant 7.4% over the same period. Contrarily, in Dresden, the costs for telecommunications showed a decrease, primarily due to reduced prices for purchasing telephones and other communication devices (-5.2%). When comparing prices from June 2024 to May 2025, a minimal increase of 0.1% is predicted for consumer goods and services.
