Prices - Consumer prices in Saxony-Anhalt up 2.6 percent
Food, Clothing and Alcohol-Free Beverages: In Saxony-Anhalt, consumer prices in June increased by 2.6 percent compared to the previous year. Prices for clothing and shoes (+3.5 percent) as well as for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (+4.8 percent) rose significantly, according to the State Statistical Office. Prices for food and alcohol-free beverages also increased by 1.6 percent. The reason for this was the rising price for edible fats and oils (+11.7 percent) as well as for sugar, jam, honey and other sweets (+6.6 percent).
Prices for Energy and Dairy Products Decreased
On the other hand, the prices for household energy and fuels decreased by four percent compared to the previous year. Some foods, such as fish, fish products and seafood (-2.1 percent), dairy products and eggs (-3.9 percent), also became cheaper.
Compared to the previous month of May, consumer prices increased by 0.4 percent, the State Statistical Office reported further. Prices for goods in the categories of Sport, Camping and Leisure (+2.7 percent) as well as Vegetables (+0.5 percent) saw increases. However, there were decreases in prices for lubricants and motor oils for vehicles (-3.6 percent) and Fruits (-2.1 percent).
Consumers in Saxony-Anhalt noticed an increase of 2.6% in the overall consumer price index for June, primarily influenced by the upward trend in prices for food, clothing, and alcohol-free beverages compared to the previous year's month. The cost of clothing and shoes witnessed a significant surge of 3.5%, while the prices for drinks, excluding alcohol, also inched up by 1.6%. Interestingly, in contrast to these trends, the cost of clothing and shoes in Saxony-Anhalt's neighboring region, Saxony, remained relatively constant throughout the previous year's month.
