Industry - Construction work at the port of Magdeburg is progressing

Construction work at the port of Magdeburg to make the entire port independent of the water level of the Elbe is progressing well. By removing a separating dam, the old industrial port has been connected to the remaining port areas, explained a spokesperson for the city of Magdeburg when asked. This extends the harbor basin by more than 1.5 kilometers. The industrial port had already been separated from the Elbe in the summer with the construction of a new dam.

The aim of the conversion measures is to make all parts of the port independent of the water level of the Elbe so that it can be used all year round. The Port of Magdeburg handles around four million tons of goods every year and is, by its own account, the largest inland port in Central Germany. It is connected to the Elbe and the Mittelland Canal. According to the city, around 44.7 million euros have been budgeted for the construction work.
