Construction of an ice factory in Schönebeck continues to be delayed

Actually, the first ice cream cones should have already been rolling off the line this year. However, not even the bulldozers are rolling. Permits are still pending.

It will take time before ice is also produced in Schönebeck.

- Construction of an ice factory in Schönebeck continues to be delayed

The construction of the planned factory of the Berlin ice cream maker Florida Ice in Schönebeck is further delayed. A construction start this year is no longer realistic, a spokesperson for the company said. Originally, construction was scheduled to begin in May last year, with the start of ice cream production planned for this year.

However, the planning process has turned out to be unexpectedly complex, the company said. There have been significant changes in cooling technology that need to be taken into account. Furthermore, the company is still awaiting building permission. Even if this were to come through soon, the trades requested for the fall are already booked elsewhere.

To improve the climate impact of its ice cream production, Florida Ice relies on solar power, custom-made cooling rooms, and the use of electric vehicles. In 2015, the company was honored by the Federal Ministry for the Environment for its commitment to climate protection. The production and storage of ice cream are energy-intensive.

Despite the delayed construction of the Florida Ice factory in Schönebeck, the company remains committed to expanding its operations in Florida. Regrettably, the expanded production of solar-powered ice cream in Florida is now unlikely to occur this year due to the setbacks in Schönebeck.
