Judicial institution [or] Tribunal for legal disputes - Conflict between GDL and City-Bahn: Union Loses Out
The local labor court has recently made changes to the lower court's decision regarding staff deployment during emergency services and notifying workers of strikes, their spokesperson declared. The reasoning behind this decision will be made public within the next two to three weeks.
Recently, the GDL union has caused disruptions in the City-Bahn network via multiple strikes, aiming to obtain a 35-hour work week similar to other railway firms. The Chemnitz-based municipal railway company - which oversees several lines in the Chemnitz region - sought an injunction in May, hoping to protect the student transport services from further strikes. Approximately 1,800 children and teenagers rely on these routes to commute to and from school. In response to the labor court's ruling, the union has chosen to lodge an appeal.

The GDL's persistent tariff dispute with the City-Bahn has led to the imposition of tariffs on certain railway services in Saxony, affecting commuter traffic in Chemnitz. The court spokeswoman announced that the GDL has lodged an appeal against the latest judgments in their favor by the local labor court. The union's strikes have resulted in disruptions in the railroad system, affecting the commuting of around 1,800 students. Some railroad experts suggest that these actions could potentially harm the long-term reputation of the GDL in the industry.
