Local governments or city administrations - Confident Woidke geared up for state polls despite Euro polls.

Brandenburg's Minister President, Dietmar Woidke, who also heads the SPD state chapter, still held a positive outlook for the forthcoming regional elections in the autumn, despite his party's slump during the European polls. "If I compare the European elections to those from five or ten years ago, we've never had it so bad while still registering good results," Woidke declared to Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) on Monday. "That's why I'm also optimistic about the state elections. This is an entirely different stage, and there are diverse matters at play, and distinct individuals involved."

The SPD, who have been in control of Brandenburg since 1990, ended up in fourth position during the European elections on Sunday with a share of 13.1% of the votes. In the municipal elections, the SPD attained 16.6% and ranked below the AfD and CDU. The next state legislature will be formed on September 22nd. The European contests, local elections, and state elections have no thematic connection.

Dietmar Woidke, the incumbent Minister President of Brandenburg and SPD state chapter leader, expressed optimism towards the upcoming state elections, despite the party's poor performance in the European elections. Woidke noted that while the European elections resulted in disappointing numbers for the SPD, they still managed decent results compared to past elections. He emphasized that the state elections will be a distinctly different stage with separate issues and individuals involved.

In the European elections, the SPD secured a fourth-place finish with a vote share of 13.1%, while in the municipal elections, the party ranked third with 16.6%. The next state legislature will be constituted on September 22nd, following the state elections. Despite the challenging circumstances, Woidke remains hopeful and contrasts the state polls with the previous European and municipal elections, which have no thematic connection.

The Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) also participated in both the European and municipal elections, showcasing strong performances, positioning themselves as a significant force in Brandenburg's political landscape. In recent news, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier participated in a moment of silence during a legal battle regarding an AfD protest.

Apart from political affairs, the German national soccer team is preparing for their European Championship qualifying matches, which promise excitement for sports enthusiasts across Brandenburg's municipalities. In other news, the aftermath of recent flooding has left mud and debris in its wake, challenging residents as they return to normal life.
