- Conducting residential sweeps to locate fugitive offenders
Looking for one of the four fugitives who bust out from a district hospital in Lower Bavaria, authorities looked into two spots in North Rhine-Westphalia. Based on global intel on the dudes' pals and hideouts, they uncovered the locations in Witten (Ennepe-Ruhr district), as detailed by the police.
Hints pointed to the possibility of this guy being at these places. But once SWAT squads checked out the flats towards the end of August, they didn't spot the wanted dude. Investigations are still going strong, the cops mentioned, as they're still wading through tips from the people and examining CCTV footage.
Guy nabbed in Austria keeps being detained
The quartet escaped from the district hospital in Straubing on Aug 17. They managed to take control of a staff member at the clinic and coerced him to unlock a door at gunpoint. One of the fugitives was apprehended just a few days later near Graz in Austria. An international arrest warrant is still active for the other three.
The individual detained in Austria at 28 years old is still inside Austrian prisons, police reported. The prosecutor's office in Regensburg has submitted a request for his extradition to Germany.
The absence of the fugitive in the identified Witten flats raised suspicions about his possible relocation. Despite the intense search for the remaining three individuals involved in the hospital escape crime, they remain at large.
