Mainz, the capital city of Rhineland-Palatinate, wants to encourage people to use buses and trains more often. As per recent announcement by Mayor Nino Haase (independent) and the directors of Mainzer Mobilität, Jochen Erlhof and Florian Wiesemann, all bus and tram services within Mainz city would be free of charge on the first Saturday of every month, starting from July 6th for a year.
This initiative is aimed at making public transportation more appealing and promoting sustainable mobility. The free ride is valid from the first service in the morning till the last service in the evening. Haase expressed that the city wants to emphasize on both cycling and an appealing public transport system as a crucial part of the transition to sustainable modes of transportation.
