Soccer - Completion against Osnabrück: Trio back in Hertha training
Hertha BSC are focusing on the end of the year in the second division. After what Hertha coach Pal Dardai described as a "perfect week" with victories against Elversberg and Kaiserslautern in the league and the cup win over Hamburger SV, three points are also on the agenda for the last game of the first half of the season. "What's important is that we play our game with the fans behind us. Then we'll be hard to beat. That's how we approach it and we definitely want to end the first half of the season with a three-pointer," said Florian Niederlechner on the club's own website at the start of training on Tuesday ahead of Saturday's home match against VfL Osnabrück (13:00/Sky). With a win, the Berliners could continue their race to catch up towards the promotion places.
Ibrahim Maza, Jeremy Dudziak and Linus Gechter returned to the training pitch. The trio worked individually with athletics coach Hendrik Vieth. Palko and Bence Dardai, who are still injured, and Agustin Rogel are still missing. For the healthy professionals, the program included passing drills and various forms of play on a smaller pitch.
Hertha are in seventh place with 24 points ahead of the 17th and final matchday of the first half of the season, four points behind the relegation spot currently occupied by HSV. Osnabrück, who are currently bottom of the table, held leaders St. Pauli to a 1-1 draw last weekend and provided an exclamation mark. Striker Niederlechner, who has scored six goals in the last four league games, doesn't care about the surprising points gained by the promoted team: "Personally, I don't care whether the opponent has won five times or lost five times recently." Coach Dardai's measures make it clear that the opponents, who already have ten points to make up on the safety margin with eight points, are being taken seriously. After the start of training on Tuesday, all further sessions during the week will be closed to the public.
