Vehicular flow disruptions - Complete shutdown of a section of the A7 highway: Demolition of a bridge segment
Because a bridge part blew up, the A7 motorway in Unterfranken will be closed in both directions at Werneck on Thursday starting from 8:30 am. This is impacting the segment between the Schweinfurt/Werneck interchange and the Gramschatzer Wald junction, as a representative for Autobahn GmbH stated. It is anticipated that traffic will be able to travel on this section around 9:30 am. In the meantime, there will be a detour.
The explosion at the Stettbach valley bridge is causing the roadway to be fractured as part of the renovation process. The area surrounding the explosion will be guarded off and made secure by police and firefighters within a 300-meter radius.
The approximately 240-meter-long bridge from 1966 is being revamped until the summer of 2025. Initially, the route leading to Würzburg was refurbished from autumn 2021. Now it's the path leading to Fulda's turn. The expenses associated with the construction amount to 27 million euros.

Despite the closure, commuters from Werneck to Fulda in Lower Franconia will need to find alternative routes. The demolition of the bridge section in Watershed Valley is part of the larger reconstruction project initiated in 2021, which includes improvements to the section leading to Würzburg and now, the path leading to Fulda. The costs for the project are substantial, with an estimated 27 million euros allocated. The authorities from Bavaria are working diligently to ensure the safety of the area, deploying police and firefighters within a 300-meter radius following the blast at Werneck's Stettbach valley bridge.
