- Competition decided - Pride sculpture soon to be on the Alster
As the "Thought Space for Sexual and Gender Diversity," a glass art installation in rainbow colors is to be created at Hamburg's Alster. This was decided by the authority for culture and media following an international art competition and in dialogue with members of Hamburg's LGBTQIA community, according to a statement from the cultural authority. The project, titled "Pavilion of Voices" and submitted as a design by Studio Other Spaces, is to be realized with around 300,000 euros. The duo behind the design, Sebastian Behmann and Olafur Eliasson, won second prize in the competition.
The "Thought Space for Sexual and Gender Diversity" is to be located at the corner of Neuer Jungfernstieg and Lombardsbrücke. The Senate had already decided on this location last year. The aim of the Thought Space is to address respect and recognition, and to create visibility for all members of the community. The idea originated from the initiative "Think Memorial Sexual Diversity."
However, the first prize was actually awarded to the design "For Capri and Roxi" by artists Franziska Opel and Hannah Rath. After weighing various interests and considering the clear sentiment of community members involved in the project, the decision was made to implement the second-place design.
The diversity within the LGBTQIA community will be celebrated and represented in the "Thought Space for Sexual and Gender Diversity." The glass art installation, which includes a rainbow color palette, will showcase the diversity in an inclusive and visible manner.
