Committee postpones decision on the 2024 budget

The state parliament's finance committee has postponed its decision on the 2024 budget. There will be no vote on Friday on the approximately 500 amendments proposed by the five parliamentary groups and the FDP group, said the committee's chairman, Volker Emde, on Friday in response to a dpa inquiry in the state parliament in Erfurt. The decision of the committee on corrections to the government draft and a recommendation for a resolution is a prerequisite for the state parliament to be able to finally deal with the budget with a volume of 13.8 billion euros. This was originally planned for next week.

Now a date shortly before Christmas is being discussed, possibly December 20 and 21, according to the parliamentary groups' budget holders.

The reason for the postponement is a meeting between CDU parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt and Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left Party) on Friday. Voigt, as leader of the opposition in the state parliament, had invited the head of government to find a solution to the tug-of-war over the 2024 state budget. Ramelow's government had made compromise proposals to the CDU at the beginning of the week.

The Household budgets of Thuringian residents may be affected if the state parliament's decision on the 2024 budget is delayed. The postponement of the Parliament's committee decision on the budget involves Government negotiations between CDU parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt and Prime minister Bodo Ramelow.
