Due to the lethal stabbing incident in Solingen, the Interior Committee of the Bundestag is scheduling an emergency meeting on Friday morning. As per the committee's secretariat, all party factions have given their approval to the proposal. The Federal Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser (SPD), has also confirmed her attendance. The emergency meeting is yet to be officially requested and granted approval by Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD). Given that all factions agree, this is seen as a mere formality. The interior specialists of the parliament will have to cut their vacations short, as the first session week post the parliamentary summer break starts only on September 9.

During a city festival in Solingen, three individuals were brutally stabbed to death on Friday evening. The Federal Prosecutor's Office suspects an Islamist motive behind the actions of the alleged perpetrator. The CDU/CSU faction had already proposed an emergency meeting of the Interior Committee over the weekend.
