Elections - Committee approves 19 state lists for state parliament elections
For the Saxony state election on September 1st, 19 parties are allowed to participate with state lists. This includes not only parties already represented in the parliament, but also newcomers such as The Left-wing Alliance (BSW) or Values Union. The Electoral Commission approved all but four lists in a public meeting in Kamenz. The Humanist Party and the Party for Medical Research on Aging failed to submit the required signatures. The Tierschutzpartei (Animal Welfare Party) had contradictions in the submitted documents. The KPD was not authorized to submit a list because its party status was not granted.
Most party lists went through without issues. Individual candidates were removed because they lacked their own consent or election affidavit, had moved to another federal state, or had withdrawn. The electoral authorities also had problems with some of the professional designations. For example, titles like works council chairman, process optimizer, or scientific assistant were not recognized because they were considered activities or functional titles. Landtag member or referent, on the other hand, were accepted as professions.
A total of 23 parties submitted state lists. The deadline was on June 27th. The Free Saxons were the first to send their list to Kamenz, on January 22nd of this year. The party is classified as extremist by the Constitutional Protection Agency and intends to run with 30 candidates on the state list. The last party to submit the documents was The Party for Work, Law and Order, Animal Welfare, Elite Promotion and Basic Democratic Initiative (Die Partei). They were missing several consent forms, so only nine of the 17 candidates on the list received confirmation. The Electoral Commission made its decision in the Electoral Committee with the support of six deputies.
The Left-wing Alliance (BSW), including Sahra Wagenknecht, will participate in the Saxony state election on September 1st with a state list, despite being a newcomer. Despite being approved, the KPD was unable to submit a national list for the state election, as their party status was not granted. During the state election, voters in Kamenz will make their choice among 19 parties with valid state lists, including established parties and newcomers like The Left-wing Alliance (BSW). The Party for Work, Law and Order, Animal Welfare, Elite Promotion and Basic Democratic Initiative (Die Partei) had issues with their list, missing several consent forms, resulting in only nine of their 17 candidates receiving confirmation.
