- Commitment to Minimizing Administrative Complexity from Red-Green
The administration of Lower Saxony's coalition government, comprised of the red and green parties, is working on simplifying the region by minimizing regulations. This, as stated by Minister President Stephan Weil, aims to transform the area into being "less complicated, swifter, and more cost-effective" across all sectors, while simultaneously promoting economic expansion.
Weil, representing the SPD, acknowledged that there's a widespread sentiment within German society, expressed as, "Oh dear, we're so convoluted in Germany." The administration plans to tackle this complexity by making regulations more straightforward across all government departments.
To fulfill this objective, more than 100 specific regulations will be revised. As an example, the support for languages in schools will now be determined by the children's language proficiency at the start of the school year rather than requiring schools to apply for these hours and create a concept.
The red-green alliance has already made strides in this direction, such as reducing the requirements for kindergarten staffing to address the skilled labor shortage and simplifying construction regulations to stimulate the industry and make construction more budget-friendly. However, skeptics fear that these adjustments could potentially result in a drop in quality.
The bureaucratic processes within the Lower Saxony's coalition government are aimed to be streamlined, as highlighted by Weil, to overcome the perception of Germany being overly complex. The bureaucracy will be simplified by making regulations more straightforward in all government departments.
