- Commencing educational journeys boosts retail sectors noticeably.
As the school year draws near in Bavaria, parents are digging deep into their wallets. The Bavarian Retail Association predicts sales of approximately 112 million euros, as confirmed by its CEO, Bernd Ohlmann. This represents an approximate 8% increase compared to the previous year.
Overall, Ohlmann expressed satisfaction with the business. Even in difficult circumstances, he noted, "when it comes to preparing for their own children's school start, parents don't skimp on the euro - especially for first-graders." The figures encompass more than just traditional school supplies, such as backpacks and pens. They also include gifts and pencil cases.
A nationwide survey conducted by the German Retail Association reveals that sweets are the most popular items stashed in pencil cases. Seventy percent of respondents mentioned sweets, followed by books, writing or stationery items, and other accessories.
Parents are actively participating in the trade of school supplies, significantly contributing to the predicted sales increase. Despite challenging circumstances, parents are willing to spend extra on their children's first-grade needs, showing a strong support for the trade sector.
