Commencement of the compensation procedure following the FTI disclosure has been scheduleed.
The refund process for FTI customers is progressing smoothly, as per the German Travel Security Fund (DRSF), and is now picking up pace. According to tourism specialist portal "fvw.de", a substantial number of refund requests have been filed, with payments already being made.
Approximately 215,000 package travel bookings were impacted by the FTI insolvency. Customers who had made payments can file for the refund of these funds from the travel security fund since August 8.
The travel security fund has already reached out to around 100,000 affected individuals via email, those who have at least two digital authentication factors, such as an email address and a mobile number. These factors are essential for the two-factor authentication process that precedes the online refund application, as reported by fvw.de. As confirmed by a DRSF spokesperson, this procedure is implemented to safeguard the personal data of the affected individuals and thwart potential fraud attempts.
Mass emails to be dispatched soon
The remaining more than 100,000 affected individuals will also be contacted soon, for whom the DRSF has their postal address but lacks the necessary data for two-factor authentication. Letters will be sent out to this group of FTI customers shortly, as announced by DRSF CEO Prof. Ali Arnaout to fvw.de. Upon receiving these letters, these customers can provide the required data and thereby initiate the online refund process.
The CEO was pleased. From the DRSF's perspective, the refund process is operating efficiently. "The applications are being processed and paid out. The processes are robust, and we can enhance the throughput," said Arnaout.
Detailed information on the refund process and the claims of travelers affected by the FTI insolvency is provided by the travel security fund. A hotline is also available: 030 78954770 (Monday - Friday, 8 to 10 PM; Saturday - Sunday, 9 to 6 PM). Europe's third-largest tour operator, FTI, filed for insolvency on June 3.
Despite the efficient refund process, some FTI customers still need to provide their data for two-factor authentication to initiate the online refund process. Once they receive the letters and provide the required information, they can proceed with the refund process. Regardless of the refund process, traveling safely remains crucial for all travelers.
