Criminal activity - Commencement of a new trial for Jérôme Boateng.

A court case involving former German football player Jerome Boateng has begun on a Friday in Munich. He's been charged with causing bodily harm. Boateng's ex-girlfriend alleges that he injured and threw objects at her during a holiday in the Caribbean back in 2018. He denies these claims.

Boateng, who turned 35 recently, arrived in courtroom A101 a few minutes late, wearing a dark suit and white shirt. This is already the fourth time the case has come before a court. Boateng, who has played for the German team Bayern Munich for years and recently transferred from Salernitana in Italy to Linzer ASK in Austria, has been dealing with this issue for a while. Munich's lower court had fined him heavily in 2021: 60 payments of 30,000 Euro each, adding up to 1.8 million Euro.

The Munich Regional Court found Boateng guilty in October 2022 of attacking his ex-girlfriend on their Caribbean trip for bodily harm and defaming her. He was ordered to pay 120 fine payments of 10,000 Euro each - a total of 1.2 million Euro. However, the Bavarian Higher Regional Court overturned this decision.

Meanwhile, as his teammates prepared for the opening match of the EURO against Scotland just a few kilometers away, Boateng faces the possibility of his fourth legal process. The verdict could be handed down by the court according to its schedule on July 19. Until the conclusion of the legally binding proceedings, Boateng is presumed innocent.
