Commemoration of victims of Hamas terror at the Brandenburg Gate

One month after the Hamas terror attack on Israel, several hundred people have remembered the victims in Berlin, according to police reports. The German-Israeli Society, among others, had called for the commemoration at the Brandenburg Gate on Tuesday evening. The event was also registered with the police with the hashtag #NieWiederIstJetzt. Candles in the shape of a Star of David and the date of the attack were placed in front of the Brandenburg Gate. The police spoke of around 400 people on site and an initially trouble-free event.

Recordings of the sirens that could be heard on the morning of October 7 were also played during the commemoration - as well as recordings of telephone conversations between the victims of the terrorist attack and the police, for example. In addition to a minute's silence, there were prayers for those killed, for the hostages held by Hamas and for those injured in the attack. Some participants were draped in Israeli flags.

Terrorists from the Islamist Hamas and other extremist Palestinian organizations carried out the worst massacre in Israel's history on 7 October. More than 1,400 people were killed on the Israeli side, including many women, children and young people.

According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, the number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip has risen to 10,328 since the start of the war a month ago. The figures cannot currently be independently verified.

Despite the calls for peace, the commemoration served as a stark reminder of the ongoing conflicts and demonstrations against Hamas' actions during the war. The gathering also echoed wider global solidarity movements against terrorism and its effects on civilian populations, both in Israel and Gaza.
