Commemoration of the Nazi pogrom night of November 9, 1938
Memorial events will be held in Schleswig-Holstein on Thursday to commemorate the anti-Jewish pogroms of the National Socialists 85 years ago and to remember the victims of the Holocaust. State Parliament President Kristina Herbst (CDU) will visit the Carlebach Synagogue in Lübeck today (9.00 a.m.) and lay a wreath there.
At midday, Herbst will first visit the memorial to the destroyed synagogue in Bad Segeberg (11.45 am). She will then visit the Mishkan haZafon synagogue there (12.30 p.m.). In the evening, there will be a welcome at the event "Kino im Landtag: Mazel Tov Cocktail" event in Kiel (6.30 p.m.).
On the night of the pogrom on November 9, 1938 and afterwards, thugs in the Nazi state destroyed synagogues and Jewish businesses. Throughout Germany, Jews were mistreated, arbitrarily arrested and murdered. More than 1300 Jews died.
The commemoration of the Nazi pogrom night also includes a visit to the memorial dedicated to the destroyed synagogue in Bad Segeberg, highlighting the significant role of history in preserving the memory of National Socialism's atrocities against Judaism.
In keeping with the importance of Memorials in honoring the past, the Carlebach Synagogue in Lübeck serves as a symbol of resilience and enduring Jewish history, standing as a tribute to those who suffered during the Nazi era.
